The Psychology Services Center (PSC) is a mental health clinic serving patients in Columbia, South Carolina, and the surrounding Midlands region. We are also a training and research facility of the psychology department at the University of South Carolina. Our mission is to serve as a low-barrier mental health resource for underserved community members through the provision of affordable, evidence-based intervention.

ROI helps build the bridge for youth and young adults to receive support for a successful transition to adulthood through engagement and providing access to mental health services.

Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and not evidence of weakness of character.

Lexington County Community Mental Health Center is dedicated to helping the residents of Lexington County by providing exceptional outpatient behavioral healthcare. Our treatment services are individually tailored to the needs of each person and we offer a wide array of interventions that focus on recovery and prevention.

With a dedicated staff, LCCMHC focuses on innovative services to meet the growing needs of our community by providing treatment services in our schools, neighborhoods, and rural clinics.

Our center is one of 17 outpatient Community Mental Health Centers of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. LCCMHC was established in 1981 at the request of Lexington County residents to meet the growing needs of this wonderful community. IMALIVE is a program of the Kristin Brooks Hope Center (KBHC), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.

Our focus is suicide intervention, prevention, awareness, and education.

We provide help and hope through online crisis chat, educational on-campus and virtual college events, and awareness campaigns.

Priscilla is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and owner of Carrera Counseling Services, PLLC. She was born and raised in the Houston area but moved to Lubbock to obtain a Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Psychology from Texas Tech University. During her time in Lubbock, she worked with children and adolescents whose parents suffered from addictions and provided drug prevention education to community schools and juvenile detention programs. She then moved to New Jersey to obtain her Master’s degree (MA) and Education Specialist degree (EdS) from Seton Hall University. While in New Jersey, she gained experience working in a variety of settings that included a therapeutic nursery, an inpatient psychiatric unit, and a community mental health agency that provided outpatient counseling services and in-school services. She also gained valuable experience doing crisis work and case management with Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (formerly known as the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey).

Shanel served in the Army for 10 years and has experience working in Corrections. These life experiences gives Shanel a unique lens into the struggles of First Responder Mental Health Issues.

While there are many mental health professionals who are competent in the treatment of issues such as trauma and stress, finding one who understands the unique culture and demands of the job is a lot harder to come by. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the men and women who courageously serve our communities, our citizens, and our nation, and I’ve dedicated my professional efforts to serving those who serve us. I spent the entirety of my 10+ years of doctoral training in the therapy room, out in the field, and in the research lab specializing in improving the mental health of first responders and military members. I understand and know firsthand the occupational stressors of the job and their impact on someone’s mental, physical, and emotional well-being. I also understand how the job can impact those closest to the person, such as partners, spouses, and family members.

I offer individual and couples therapy services for current/former first responders, military, and their loved ones. I also provide services for civilians in high stress professions (e.g., ER doctors/nurses; lawyers; etc.).
